SEO-oooooh nooooo! Google preparing to drop the hammer on over-SEO’d websites.

Posted on Posted in Google

Last Friday a small earthquake occurred in the world of Google and Search. At a panel session at SXSW, the Director of Web Spam for Google let it be known that the Big G and it’s team of operatives are gearing up to further stamp out over-SEO’d websites. We at Round Focus talk a lot about the death of SEO… we preach the proper techniques and philosophy when it comes to representing yourself online with a quality website and relevant content.

For further proof that it is okay to be yourself…. it’s okay to cancel that monthly SEO bill that makes that vein in your forehead bulge out every time you open the evenelope…. please read the following quote from the session that took place within the last week.

“What about the people optimizing really hard and doing a lot of SEO. We don’t normally pre-announce changes but there is something we are working in the last few months and hope to release it in the next months or few weeks. We are trying to level the playing field a bit. All those people doing, for lack of a better word, over optimization or overly SEO – versus those making great content and great site. We are trying to make GoogleBot smarter, make our relevance better, and we are also looking for those who abuse it, like too many keywords on a page, or exchange way too many links or go well beyond what you normally expect. We have several engineers on my team working on this right now.”

If you think you may have a site with keyword stuffing, irrelevant links, a not-so-honest representation of your business or organization… please take a long, hard look at your site and consider this pearl of wisdom just released from the horse’s mouth itself…. Google. It’s time to be yourself. It’s also time to start looking into Google and their products and how you may use them.

Because their goal is to provide the most honest, relevant content for it’s users. It’s all about local search, being honest, relevant and true to yourself. We all know how big Google is… if you’re reading our blog posts you see where we are going with this. Play the game fair, utilize Google’s products, maintain a great website with good content and you shall be rewarded.

If you’re not sure where you stand in this massive shift… contact us and we’d be happy to speak with you.
